WORKSHOP SUMMARY

Attendees will gain an;

  • Understanding the importance of assessment process
  • Understand the importance of conducting a thorough postural assessment
  • Understand how to risk assess for skin breakdown and how to manage these risks.
  • Understand how to translate assessment findings into prescription of equipment.
  • Overview of different types of wheeled mobility.
  • Overview of different ‘off the shelf’ postural aids and;
  • How to exercise clinical reasoning throughout the prescription process

This workshop will proivide partciapnts with the tools to complete a thorough assessment. This will in turn allow them to then tailor their equipment trials in a more appropriatly and exercise their clinical reasoning in a manner that is justifiable their equipment choices.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

New Graduates and Beginners 

Please note; this course is not suitable for senior clinicians 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to;

  • Complete a formal MAT evaluation and identify bony landmarks.
  • Understand the importance of a thorough needs assessment of client.
  • Build a clear picture of clinical need.
  • Be familiar with equipment available to manage posture.
  • Better manage risk related to skin breakdown.
  • Accurately measure to prescribe equipment.
  • Understand how to prescribe equipment to match the clinical picture.
  • Understand how to exercise clinical reasoning to prescribe equipment.

 

PRESENTER

David Quach

David is an Occupational Therapist with 15 years of clinical experience within a range of clinical fields. He has practised extensively in the field of wheelchair prescription and seating for over 13 years. He has practised in seating clinics in the UK, and for NGO’s in Sydney.

David has designed and facilitated training for Occupational Therapists including seating assessment and prescription, wheelchair seating and prescription and pressure care and risk management. He is passionate improving client outcomes by improved assessment and prescription and good clinical decision making.

David has a certificate 4 in training and assessment and presented at OT NSW state conference and completed project work to formulate consumer guidelines (When Spinal Cord Injury Affects You).

Currently he practises as the principal Occupational Therapist for Aspire Rehab. Aspire Rehab is a private rehab company that specialises in providing clinical assessments in wheelchairs and seating as well as providing other community based Occupational Therapy interventions.
