OVERVIEW

This Interest Group (IG) is open to all OTA members working in or with an interest in the area of mental health. The aims of the group include:

•            To provide opportunities for networking, professional development and education.

•            To educate, provide support, and create a safe space to discuss clinical practice (research and evidence-based practice, innovative OT practice, lived experience).

MEETING DETAILS

TOPIC:

Forensic mental health and Occupational Therapy

This discussion aims to introduce members to the separate concepts of OT, mental health and forensic mental health and the interplay between them all.  We will consider why this client population is often not considered or stigmatised.  Whilst the clients often present with heightened risks of violence, they also present with considerable vulnerabilities and traumas.

Helping to work with clients engaged with forensic mental health systems and utilising OT frameworks to engage with the client from a wholistic client centred perspective is truly rewarding.
