OVERVIEW

This Interest Group (IG) is open to all OTA members working in or with an interest in the area of mental health. The aims of the group include:

•            To provide opportunities for networking, professional development and education.

•            To educate, provide support, and create a safe space to discuss clinical practice (research and evidence-based practice, innovative OT practice, lived experience).

TOPIC:

Supporting graduates moving into the mental health space

This session aims to outline strategies to support early in career clinicians who are starting in mental health. It focuses on how senior OTs, supervisors and organisations can put systems in place to support graduates and what graduates can also do to support their own success.

Leanne Coffey

Presenter

Since graduating in 2022, Leanne has worked with adults in rehabilitation and community aged care, supporting clients with co-morbidities, including mental health challenges. Her background in crisis support with Lifeline and mental health training has equipped her as a new graduate, to manage complex caseloads involving psychosocial challenges whilst adjusting to significant illness or injury.

Jenna Noonan

Presenter

Jenna has worked in the NDIS space for 10 years across the lifespan, focussing on positive behaviour support and mental health. Over the past 5 years, therapy provided has primarily targeted co-morbidities of neurodiversity and mental health conditions as well as supporting and coaching team members including graduates to seniors in working with NDIS participants who present with a mental health conditions (primary and co-morbidities).

Heidi Russell

Presenter

Heidi has worked in public mental health services for 10+ years, with extensive experience supporting new graduates and early in career clinicians. She has also taught into undergraduate university courses and understands how students experience the transition from study to workforce.
