MEETING DETAILS

TOPIC:

Reclaiming the Body: Trauma Recovery Through Kundalini Yoga and Building Interoceptive Awareness

This presentation will explore the design and clinical application of a 12-week trauma-sensitive Kundalini Yoga program for survivors of adult sexual violence, currently being evaluated in a world-first NHMRC-funded study. Rooted in over a decade of therapeutic teaching and informed by polyvagal theory, the program integrates grounding mudras, breath practices, and an intentional "action–pause–action" structure to cultivate interoception, emotional regulation, and somatic safety. Billie, a trauma-informed Yoga Therapist and co-investigator on the study, will share the therapeutic rationale behind the protocol and key insights from working with complex PTSD. This session offers OTs and allied health practitioners practical perspectives on embodied healing and the emerging role of yoga as a viable, non-verbal pathway for trauma recovery.
