MEMBER FORUM - Building our Profession: Insights from the Workforce Development Project

OTA’s Workforce Development Project is a national initiative focused on understanding the current state of the OT workforce and identifying what’s needed to ensure a strong, sustainable future for the profession. You’ll hear about key findings from this project and the plans to help guide professional growth and support viable occupational therapy careers to ensure a strong, sustainable future for the profession.

Program Overview

Join OTA’s Member Forum to hear updates on the Workforce Development project and take a closer look at the new Capability Frameworks. The Capability Frameworks propose what best practice looks like in various practice settings across the career pathway, from foundational to senior practitioner level. Attendees will be introduced to the suite of Capability Frameworks that have been developed by the association, learn about the process of how each framework is built and understand how OTA plans to use the frameworks to build workforce capacity to strengthen the profession.

Current capability frameworks include:

  • Working with Older People (Aged Care)

  • Mental Health

  • Working with Children, Young People and Families

  • Working with People with Pain

  • Supporting People with Assistive Technology

  • Supporting People with Environmental and Home Modifications

The session will also look back at the findings of the Workforce Development Project and the key outcomes, including the development of the OTA Occupational Therapy Workforce Plan to address challenges and opportunities for the profession. Key priorities include enhancing the new graduate experience and retaining experienced occupational therapists in the profession.
