This Interest Group (IG) is open to all OTA members working in or with an interest in pain management. This group aims to: 

  • Provide evidence-based professional development activities and research
  • Connect and network with other OTs 
  • Explore the role of occupational therapy in pain management

MEETING DETAILS

TOPIC: 

Bridging the Gap: Pharmacists and OTs Working Together in Modern Pain Management

This session will explore the role of medications in pain management and their impact on function, participation, and everyday life. Aimed at OT’s, it will provide a practical overview of common analgesics, including opioids and adjuvant therapies, along with their benefits, risks, and functional side effects. The session will also highlight the complementary roles of pharmacists and OTs, with a focus on medication reviews, deprescribing, and opportunities for collaboration.

Cindy Tolba

Presenter (Pharmacist)

Cindy is a credentialled consultant pharmacist, conducting both Home Medicines Reviews and Residential Medication Management Reviews. She is also a credentialled diabetes educator in private practice, where she works closely with clients to support their individual diabetes care needs. Her dedication and impact have been recognised—she was awarded the South Australian Credentialled Diabetes Educator of the Year in 2021. Cindy is deeply committed to education and mentoring. She contributes as a guest speaker at Flinders University in the Graduate Certificate in Diabetes Education and Management and is also a lecturer at the University of Western Australia. In addition, in 2023 she was involved in the “Living Well with Persistent Pain” program through the Adelaide Primary Health Network, further highlighting her holistic approach to patient care. Despite her many professional roles, Cindy remains grounded in community pharmacy—and on her days off, she takes on another important role as a busy taxi mum to two teenagers.
