OVERVIEW

This is a group to: 

  • Discuss professional standards and guidelines for practice relevant to the field.
  • Develop resources that will assist new therapists moving into the field of medicolegal work and
  • Provide evidence based training for expert therapists providing medicolegal reports that are consistent with the occupational therapy philosophy and ethics as well as the Expert Witness Code of Conduct relevant for each state.

Deborah Hammond

Presenter

Deborah is an occupational therapist of 43 years’ experience. She has worked with adults with congenital and acquired disabilities in acute and community rehabilitation settings. She has extensive experience in workers compensation, motor accident and other insurance schemes. For over 20 years, she has provided expert opinions in the courts and Administrative Appeals Tribunal. She has managed large projects in the aged, disability and community sectors focused on developing the sector’s skills in managing health and safety risk associated with the provision of attendant care. Along with Susan Dinley, she is the OTA representative at the Home Modification Clearinghouse. She provides design advice on hospital, residential aged care, specialist disability accommodation and seniors living projects.
