Cultural Responsiveness and Capability

What the Occupational Therapy Council of Australia Ltd (OTC) is looking for in the Supervised Practice Implementation Plan (SPIP).

In the field of OT, it is important to be sensitive to different cultures and practice in a way that's safe and respectful. The competency standards, set by the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia and the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, place emphasis on the need to be culturally responsive with respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.

Internationally qualified occupational therapists need to ensure they can deliver culturally responsive therapy services. Collaboration between the Occupational Therapy Council of Australia with Indigenous Allied Health Australia (IAHA) offers access to training to enhance understanding and inclusivity in healthcare delivery.
