OTA supports the Department's move to a more consistent, evidence-based NDIS access process. Drawing on the clinical expertise of occupational therapists, this submission makes 27 recommendations across six areas: guiding principles, decision-making design, administrative burden, diverse cohorts, permanence and transition. We seek an access process led by appropriately qualified assessors, informed by professionals already working with the applicant, and backed by independent safeguards. Each section shows how getting decisions right the first time reduces appeals and reassessments, and supports a fair and sustainable Scheme.
